Self-guided trip to Gothenburg. Take a first stroll through Sweden’s second-largest city and explore some of its many sights and tourist attractions.
From central Gothenburg, you follow the harbor inlet westward, passing Röda Sten Art Gallery and Klippan Cultural Reserve before reaching the old shipyard area of Nya Varvet. You continue cycling south past the scenic Stora Amundön, where the route is lined with sea views, small boat harbors, bays, cliffs, and lush forests. Between Askim and Billdal, the bike path runs close to the sea before you reach the old railway embankment, now converted into a cycle path. Soon, you arrive at Särö — a place where Gothenburg’s high society and royalty vacationed during the last century. Via Vallda, you continue eastward towards Kungsbacka, the final destination of your journey..
From Kungsbacka, you cycle south through fields and past horse farms until you reach the impressive hill of Fjärås Bräcka. Here, you can take a break, enjoy the beautiful views of both lake and sea, and visit the historic Li burial site with over 100 standing stones. Afterward, the journey continues through rolling farmland to the coastal village of Åsa, where you meet the sea again. You pass charming small villages like Frillesås and Tångaberg. The landscape gradually changes — cliffs become more frequent, sandy beaches smaller, and the first islands appear in the sea. Soon you approach Varberg, where the coast opens up once more.
From Varberg, you begin cycling south along the beautiful Strandpromenaden, with Varberg Fortress standing as a majestic farewell. If you start early, you might have time to visit the fortress and see the Bocksten Man—a uniquely preserved medieval bog body. The journey continues through the open coastal landscape, passing charming fishing villages like Träslövsläge and Glommen. In Träslövsläge, you can enjoy freshly cooked crayfish and stroll through the idyllic alleys lined with well-preserved old wooden houses. Along the way, you’ll also encounter several local artisans. Soon, you reach Falkenberg, one of Halland’s oldest medieval towns, where you continue cycling through the town center.
From Falkenberg, you begin cycling south along the beautiful coast. You pass Skrea Beach and continue through the scenic area of Grimsholmen, offering stunning sea views. Soon, you reach the small coastal village of Ugglarp, known for its vegetable farms and lovely seaside bathing spots. The landscape is dominated by the sea, open fields, nature reserves, and lush farmland. In Steninge, you can visit a glassworks and enjoy classic Swedish food and drink. In Särdal, take a break at the charming windmill, which also has a café and farm shop. The journey continues along the coast until you reach Tylösand—Sweden’s most famous beach—and the well-known Hotel Tylösand. Both are well worth a visit before you cycle into Halmstad, a lively town full of things to discover.
From Halmstad, you cycle south along one of Sweden’s longest sandy beaches and through the nature reserves of Gullbranna and Tönnersa. You pass the seaside resorts of Mellbystrand and Skummeslövsstrand before reaching Båstad, known for its tennis and vibrant summer atmosphere. From here, the route takes you up through the beautiful Sinarpsdalen and the rolling agricultural landscape of the Bjäre Peninsula. At Ängelbäcksstrand, you return to the coast and follow the road north through small fishing villages. Be sure to stop at Magnarp Harbor for a seaside break before cycling into Ängelholm.
From Ängelholm, you cycle across the Kulla Peninsula, passing vineyards and family-owned farm shops, continuing towards Höganäs. Here, you can explore the wide range of the world-famous salt-glazed Höganäs ceramics. The route then follows the coast, passing the picturesque fishing villages and small harbors of Viken and Domsten. Finally, you follow the seaside promenade in Helsingborg, passing Sofiero Castle and its gardens, a blooming oasis named Europe’s most beautiful park in 2010.
After breakfast your tour ends. We are happy to extend your holidays with extra nights.
