Tromsø is the capital of Northern-Norway, located at almost 70 degrees north.
You can experience the Midnight Sun in Tromsø from 19. May to 27. July.
Start following the waterfront around the south tip of Tromsøya Island. Then cross the longest bridge in Northern Norway (1.2 km long and approx. 45 m high) and continue south-west on the Kvaløya Island. Nice and easy biking along the fjords, but some steep accent leading up to the pass, Kattfjordeidet, 150 m.a.s.l. Enjoy some great views of the majestic peaks reaching up to 1040 meters high before some nice downhill and easy biking along the fjord to Sommarøy, a thriving coastal community, living of fishing and tourism.
We recommend an evening hike to Hillesøytoppen, with magnificent views of the ocean and the Senja Island.
Senja, Norway's second-largest island located at 69 degrees north, offers an unforgettable cycling experience. After arriving by ferry, you'll tackle some hilly terrain, crossing a mountain pass that reaches 120 meters above sea level. The ride then becomes smoother as you cycle along the fjord to Mefjordvær, where you'll be treated to stunning views of steep mountains plunging into the ocean. Following the Norwegian Scenic Route Senja, the narrow road winds and twists along the fjord, offering breathtaking sights at every turn.
Start by returning to the main road at Senjahopen, then continue to the Geitskards Tunnel. From here, cycle down to the beach at Ersfjorden, then along the fjord to the Tungeneset rest area, where you'll enjoy a stunning view of the Oksen mountain, also known as the Devil's Teeth. The final challenge of the day is a steep climb up to Skaland Tunnel. Halfway up, take a break at a 44-meter long platform to admire the breathtaking views of the fjord and surrounding peaks. After the tunnel, the ride is smooth all the way to Hamn in Senja.
Start by biking past Norheimsund to Tørvikbygd, and from there; a nice ride along the fjord, to Gjermundshamn. Some minor climbs, but not much traffic.
Ferry crossing to the south side of the fjord and continue biking to the small village of Rosendal.
Rosendal offers attractions such as the Barony in Rosendal, the Stone Park with sculptures by Bård Breivik, Kvinnherad Church from 1255, and several art galleries.
From Bø, you pass Risøyhamn and bike the steep bridge across Risøysund. You continue along the fjord to Sortland on flat and easy roads. There is some more traffic than before.
1. Bike from Sortland to Stokmarknes 28 km. Go by the Coastal line, Hurtigruten, from Stokmarknes to Svolvær. On this tour, the ship enters the famous and narrow Trollfjorden.
2. Bike all the way from Sortland to Svolvær, 76 km. You must expect quite some traffic when you approach Svolvær along road E10.
Recomended detour on the ocean side of Austvågøya (approx. 46 kilometres/3 hours extra) to avoid some of the traffic. (Still 16 km on road E10).
