Stockholm round trip with 2 overnights in Mariefred

Take your first stroll through Sweden’s capital and explore some of the many sights and tourist attractions. 

After breakfast you start your tour with a train ride (not included) to Södertälje. From the small town, which is also home of Scania you continue along small side roads to Mariefred with its Gripsholm palace. Although Mariefred has not that many inhabitants it is for historical reasons still referred to as a city. The palace, which belongs to the Royal family is worth to see and houses the national portrait collection of over 4000 works that trace the portrait art from the 1400s and up to the present. 

Visit island Selaön with its runestones and cemetery from the 15th century or enjoy a rest day in Mariefred. Palace Gripsholm and other places of interest are waiting to be explored. Nostalgia lovers are going on a trip to Taxinge with Sweden's first museum train and return by boat (departures between July and mid of August, not included). 

Today’s tour takes you right into the middle of untouched and remote nature reserves, through the amazing scenery of Sörmland. At this spot countless rivers and lakes were formed due to vast tectonic movements. Nevertheless the altitude is never higher than 100m. Once you have mastered the hills you get rewarded with stunning views and a long descent. Your hotel is located beautifully at a lake in the countryside and completes this "green day" of your bike trip. 

Your destination for the day is the idyllic Baltic Sea town of Trosa, which is also used as setting for many movies. Finish your day with a stroll through the picturesque village and enjoy the small alleys, red houses and wonderful views on the water. We recommend to try crabs, salmon or smoked fish in one of the nice, little restaurants for dinner.

Northward bound and a short ferry trip later you return to one of Stockholm’s many islands. The last part is covered by commuter train to Stockholm (not included). You will leave the train on the island of Södermalm and cycle the last kilometers back to your hotel. Enjoy your last overnight in the capital with a typical Swedish dinner in one of the numerous restaurants.
